In 2009, Sport Relief asked Izzard to be part of some sort of sporting challenge. He was interested in doing a big physical running challenge, so he surrounded himself with Olympic experts and started training for a long string of marathons. The challenge also helped raise money for Africa and some of the poorest countries in the world.
He decided to run through the whole UK from London to Cardiff to Belfast to Edinburgh and back to London. After training for only 5 weeks, Izzard ran 1100 miles. He ran 30 miles a day for six days a week. He ran 43 marathons in just 51 days.
Some of you may recognize Izzard, as he's a famous stand-up comedian. He was born in Yemen while his parents were there on business and now has a slew of movies and TV shows under his belt. He imitates Sean Connery and James Mason in his acts. He also wears male and female clothing during his stand-up acts.
