A virtual band was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the "Most Successful Artists in the UK Ringtone Charts"!

Yep, the band is called Gorillaz with a total of 4 band members and have been a band for 14 years. The band was made by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998.

Gorillaz is technically a band made of real people who make the music and do voice-overs for the actual band members but the band is mostly represented by the four virtual band members: 2-D (Stuart Pot), Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs.

In 2006, the band was in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the "Most Successful Artists in the UK Ringtone Charts" but have also been in the book as the "Most Successful Virtual Band" which goes without a doubt.

Their first two albums, Gorillaz and Demon Days, combined sales exceeded 15 million copies in 2007. Not only have they been in the Guinness Book of World Records multiple times, but they have also won many other awards; two MTV Video Music Awards, three MTV Europe Music Awards, an NME award, and have even been nominated twice for the Brit Award for Best British Group.

They were also nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2001 but the nomination was withdrawn at the band's request. Their album Demon Days went five times platinum in the United Kingdom, double platinum in the United States, and earned five Grammy award nominations in 2006. They won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.

Today, the band's latest song and music video came out in February of 2012. The music video also promoted their new Converse brand. In an interview with the two creators of Gorillaz, it has been made evident that more Gorillaz projects seem "unlikely" because of disagreements between the two creators but there is a possibility that once the disagreements are solved, they will continue.

If you think you've never heard their songs, try searching Clint Eastwood, Feel Good Inc, Dare, 19-2000, El Manana, On Melancholy Hill, Dirty Harry, Superfast Jellyfish, or Stylo on youtube.com. They have many more songs but these are some of their most famous.
