The world's most expensive dessert costs $25,000.

It’s a chocolate sundae with some of the most expensive varieties of cocoa along with 5 grams of edible 23-karat gold, in an edible golden goblet. The sundae comes with an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds. (We assume the bracelet isn’t edible). The whole thing is topped off with whipped cream (with more gold on top) and a $2600 truffle on the side.

This ostentatious concoction is the result of a collaboration between New York’s Serendipity 3 restaurant and the Euphoria New York jeweler. The treat has to be ordered well in advance, and so far, even the wealthiest New Yorkers have avoided eating a dessert that costs well over half an average American salary. Inquiries about the dessert have primarily come from Europeans, and Serendipity’s owner expects that the dessert will only be ordered by Middle Eastern royalty on vacation.

This dessert might not sit well with Americans suffering through the effects of the recession, but on the plus side, sales will be used to fund culinary school scholarships.
