The US has the highest rate of illegal drug use in the world!

America is famous for its stringent anti-drug policies, yet shockingly, we report the highest illegal drug use in the world. In fact, marijuana use in the United States is even higher than the Netherlands where it’s legal! 

Americans are four times more likely to report using cocaine in their lifetime than any other country. Why exactly is this? Many are not sure, but some believe it’s because of how our laws are structured. One thing that is evident is that the way drugs are being treated is clearly not working. 

The World Health Organization released the statement, “Globally drug use is not distributed evenly... since countries with stringent user-level illegal drug policies did not have lower levels of use than countries with liberal ones.” One theory is that drugs are just simply a feature of more affluent countries, yet despite attempts to stop use, alcohol, cocaine, and cannabis are abused more in America than any other country.
