Weasels sometimes perform a wild dance while hunting!

Weasels are 5 to 18 inches long with short legs enabling them to crawl into their prey’s burrows. Their tails are another 9 to 13 inches long. They hunt birds and rabbits and spirally climb up trees to get to birds and squirrel nests.

Weasels and ferrets are known for their war dance. It’s a term used for when they have an excited behavior. In the wild, they use the dance to confuse and disorient their prey. Pet weasels and ferrets do the dance when they are playing or capture their toy.

The dance is a frenzied series of sideways and backwards hops. During the dance they often arch their back and fluff their tail. There’s no need to be scared of the dance. It is harmless and is really just used when they’re excited.

It helps distract their prey, but they can’t do much damage to humans. Some weasels make noise while they dance, too.
