Moose and Alaskan Huskies will team up to protect themselves from wolves!

Sounds like an odd combination, but it’s actually quite effective. In Alaska, huskies are plentiful and extremely compatible with the environment yet they have developed an odd cohabitation with local moose.

During desperate times of cold or extreme snow moose will wander into human areas, drawn by the fresh smell of straw used for dogs’ bedding. This became a routine occurrence and eventually became mutually beneficial.

Because the dogs are tethered and not a direct threat to the much larger moose, the larger animals will bed down among the dogs, who will work as sentries to alert the moose if a wolf is approaching. If there is a wolf, the moose will often try to scare it away or defend the dogs!
