A flying bear killed two people!
The force of the moving bear was so great that it ripped through the windshield and exited out the back window of the SUV. The incident occurred at 10:30 on the Quebec Highway 148. The 25-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man in the SUV were killed in the accident.
The boyfriend of the woman was the only one in the SUV to survive the incident. He had several minor injuries that were treated in Hull Hospital. The two men riding in the Pontiac both survived with very little harm.
Bears were pretty common for the area, even near roads. Although, accidents with deer are far more common, it’s not surprising that a driver might miss a black bear in the dark. It would be hard to see because of its dark color.
Some people worried that bear-baiting nearby for hunting was responsible for drawing the bears closer to the roads. Several nearby residents were concerned about bear-baiting habits resulting in another similar accident.
